GRUNGE from Japan has created a light, padded, 44mm rail, synthetic leather saddle (hooray for VEGANS) that is truly affordable. The shape has classic lines of those popular Italian saddles.

Chrome Aces is a benefit project supporting local Bicycle Messenger Associations from four cities: SF, NYC, Portland and Chicago. Funds raised provide assistance to messengers who are injured on the job. Pick up a deck and support a fallen messenger. And please watch out for bikers! All proceeds go directly back to the courier community via local Bicycle Messenger Associations as well as the international Bicycle Messenger Emergency Fund!

These are like a dime in a dozen. The only place I found them was at
Ben’s Cycle. And they sold out FAST! Best of luck finding one.

As you may have heard, Vivalo lost their NJS (Nihon Jitensha Shinkokai) certification due to several mishaps on the track. According to resources, “Kusaka-san changed the medium (filler-metal) he was using for brazing for about 1-2 months in late 2007. Turns out it was probably not a good idea. The crash that brought the frames to NJS attention, involved a rider heading into a crashed pack of riders. Of course his frame was damaged, but it was the way it was damaged that suggested there was a flaw with the fork.”
As the Keirin community was quickly shaken up by the sad news, I was quick to take advantage of it. The prices dropped and I was able to pick one up for half the price. NJS or not... once NJS, always NJS.!
