Its great to see those who embrace BMX and Fixed Gear riding... giving back to their communities.
The BYKE Project is an outreach effort by Dunamis Media to help repair the bicycles of young kids and teenagers who other wise wouldn’t be able to afford the repairs. As a company that is involved and connected with the BMX industry, we understand how important it is for young people to have bicycles, skateboards, or any other recreational “toys” that actually work and can be ridden. This project hopes to put smiles on young people’s faces as they see their broken “toys” being brought back to life. Most kids don’t know how to work on their own bikes and the ones in families with very little money can’t afford even the most minor repairs. There is no reason why a kid should have to be without a bike or ride one that is a “piece of junk”. It’s rare that you ever see a bike shop going into these neighborhoods to do such charity, and even if they had such an offer taking place at their shop location, how would the kids get there? On their bikes? This is why the BYKE project is so important. We take the bike shop right to them and it costs them nothing. This project helps young people enjoy some of the most basic activities involved with growing up.

“Our family Shoe Biz is in the midst of launching a collaboration with Onitsuka Tiger. The shoe based on the ‘66 Mexico features a series of notable features as it situates itself as a reflective, all-vegan shoe for fixed gear riders. The initial look includes a mesh overlay with 3M underneath on the typically sleek ‘66 Mexico style. Stay tuned for a web edit for the all new exclusive, Onitsuka Tiger, Mexico 66', which will feature Riders from "Human Traffic" and a sneak peak of what "Human Traffic" has in-store. Expect to see us rockin' these joints when they drop, June 1st, Exclusively at ShoeBizSF.com” – Justin Gallagher

A few days ago, I received an awesome package from Isaac @
Chicago Wig. And... if you’re not familiar with Chicago Wig, they make some quality
Messenger Bags,
Backpacks,
Hipsacks, and
Knickers. The package I received contained a small Velo Pouch and one pair of Knickers.
The first item I played with was the Velo Pouch. Though it may seem small, it’s quite large enough to hold all your daily essentials... like your cell phone, MP3 player, and currency. You can either mount the Velo Pouch on your belt or on the shoulder strap of your messenger bag. I favored mounting the pouch on my shoulder strap for quick cell phone and MP3 access. The belt loops on the back of the pouch are wide enough to accommodate a 3-inch belt/strap. There is also a strip of reflective material on the front of the pouch for added safety. All in all... a nicely crafted killer pouch!
The Knickers couldn't have come at a better time with summer just being around the corner. Made from 100% cotton ripstop... they are lightweight and have a super comfortable feel. On the waist and leg opening... you will find adjustable straps to help you get that perfect fit. There are two standard front pockets and two large button-down back pockets... perfect for your u-lock. The Knickers also feature two large button-down cargo pockets which are large enough to hold a tire repair kit, tools, gadgets, etc. And with the double-stitched seams... they will take any abuse you throw at them. The best part about these quality Knickers is the price... $50! On a nice sunny day, riding with them made the day even better. Sadly, I'm a one man army and couldn't take a photo of me wearing them.
Thanks Isaac and
Chicago Wig!

Different body types need different clothing, and at Outlier, they are out to make clothing that fits all sorts of cyclists shapes.
The OUTLIER Climber pants are a full on reengineering of slim cut pants for a cyclists world. The innovative vertical yoke removes most of the traditional stress points that cycling generates in a garment, allowing for a free range of movement. The curved waistband is higher in the back to keep certain areas hidden and lower in the front to allow you to lean forward and ride in comfort. The spread back pockets are easy to access and positioned so you don't sit on them while riding. Cut slim for comfort, form and aesthetics.
Made with Outlier's 4Season Lotus fabric, these pants have four-way stretch which allow full movement on and off the bike. Quick drying, breathable, water and grease resistant to keep you crisp and comfortable in any situation. Made in New York City and available in Black and Slate Gray

Lately, I've been reluctant to try new shoes, especially after wearing
Vans for the past two decades. So a few days ago, I received a nice package from Veronica at
Vittoria Shoes. She sent me a pair of the
1976 Classic cycling shoes made with Lorica-Microfiber (vegan friendly). And if you didn't know already... the 1976 was created due to the popularity of Fixed Gear bicycles in Europe.
My first impressions, having only seen them in pictures... was how light and minimalist they were. Being MADE IN ITALY... the overall design and construction of the shoe is top notch! With the breathable holes on the upper & side portions of the shoe, you can rest assured that your feet won't get the heat and the stink. And like other SPD cycling shoes... the SPD fitting area can be easily concealed with the supplied cleat covers that sit flush with the contour of the sole.
The contact between the shoes and my MKS Custom Nuevo pedals was solid. I didn't feel the pedals digging into the soles like my Vans usually did. And like any other new shoe that hasn't been broken in... my feet were a little sore at first. But after a few hours of riding... they loosened up and my feet were just fine. The best experience with these shoes was going to my job and not worrying about bringing an extra pair of work shoes. I simply kept them on and did my job with a smile on my face.
The 1976 Classic is just an all-around great cycling shoe for all you Fixed Gear riders. The 1976 comes in several materials of your choice. And with the supplied sizing chart... you won't have to worry about not trying them on first.
Big thanks to Veronica and the team at Vittoria Shoes.

Earlier this spring, biking on the edges of Brooklyn Abe and Tyler of
Outlier stumbled on an incredible stash of surplus tropical wool suiting. Never ones to let things go to waste, they snatched it up and turned it into the OUTLIER Tropical Wool Caps. Tropical wools are nothing like the heavy ichy stuff you think of when you think wool. These are the same fabrics that you'll find in a $3000 summer suit and they make for a midweight cap with a fantastic look, fit and feel.
The OUTLIER Tropical Wool Cap is made in collaboration with master milliner Victor Osborne and designed with the highest attention to detail. Outlier started with Italian tropical wool suiting, known as the finest cloth in the world and graded in terms of a Super number. The higher the number, the finer the wool. These caps are all made from Super 80s or better, which means they will have similar performance qualities to our premium merinos. Perfect for riding across town and still looking refined and sophisticated on your next date.
The Super 80s are available in black and navy for $75.
The Highgrades are available in a dark blue nailhead and a light gray/blue for $90.
Fit wise, a small is 21.5 inches naturally and stretches to 22.5. A medium is 22.5 inches naturally and stretches to 23.5. A large is 23.5 inches naturally and stretches to 24.5. A traditional look with a modified four panel construction, fully lined and like all Outlier products made in New York City for style and quality.

When I ride... I like to ride light! So today I received a
Bagaboo u-lock holder/wallet sample from Richard @
Urban Hunter. My first impressions of this hip pouch was how simplistic and compact it was. And the overall design and construction was SUPERB!
The integrated wallet is just big enough to hold all your basic essentials. The placement of the zipper was on-point because you don’t have to twist your body all the way around to access it. The tri-fold padded design allows you to insert a
mini u-lock to a
full size u-lock of your choice. SUPER CONVENIENT!
Taking the pouch along for a ride was just as nice. I couldn’t even tell I was toting around a mini u-lock on my ass... that’s how comfortable it was.
I highly recommend this hip pouch for all those who are tired of carrying around useless baggage. Head over to
Urban Hunter and get one!
Thanks Richard!
