I started riding fixies in 2004 when a friend of mine built his first conversion and let me take it for a spin. On my maiden voyage, a car pulled out in front of me and, novice as I was, I slammed full speed into the driver’s side door. At that moment, I knew I was in love.
Nurse Betsy is an 80s model Univega free hub conversion. On the way to the dump, she was salvaged from my neighbors’ trash pile after a spring cleaning frenzy. She still has all of her original components, including her 27” wheels. She’s my first and only fixie and I wouldn’t trade her for all the steel in China.
Her saddle is a rescue from my adopt-a-seat program, “Tap That.” A few years ago, I started saving unloved saddles from junk piles at thrift stores and garage sales and dressing ‘em up with other salvaged materials. The result: landfill diversion and seats that even the hottest asses would be proud to straddle.

Octopus Caps sent me a few caps to try out. One cap which pays homage to Van Halen caught my eye real quick! The overall construction of these caps are flawless and fit so damn well! As a bonus feature, you will find a nice silk-like nylon pocket inside the cap to stash your money and cash cards. The best part about these caps is that they come in different sizes. I've always disliked the "one size fits all" approach. In the end, if you're looking for a nice cap... I highly recommend Octopus Caps! By far... they are my favorite! I think Juliet likes them as well because she snagged the Van Halen cap =)

Juliet and I spotted the
Black Star Bags shop off Alberta and decided to take a peek. We found this nice
Tool Roll made by
Bike Cozy. It rolls up so small... it can easily fit in your back pocket. The Tool Roll included Park Tools and Pedro's levers.

This hip pouch packs a BIG punch!
Archie's Grobags is having some technical difficulties with their website and it should be back up soon. In the meantime, if your interested in getting one of these hip pouches, please email bionicear[at]hotmail.co.uk for more information. They sell for £45 and I must say... I've never seen a pouch like this on the market before. Its brilliant!

Check out Sander's new custom
Colossi fixie. The lugs are polished & smoothed giving the frame a one-piece look. The one-piece handlebar/stem combo is fillet brazed. To add a personal touch to his frame... lugs and paint detail are done in glitter... with the absence of any stickers. Lastly, coins (homage to Gios) were added to the crown of the fork making this frame a true one-off.
