As you already know, my shipment of Kagero framesets has arrived. You can now purchase one at the PC Webstore or the Kagero Webstore. For locals, save on shipping and pick it up in person!
My friend Daniel "Gypsy" Licastro has been down in San Diego for several weeks before he ships off to the United Bicycle Institute in Ashland, Oregon. This cool ass Australian wrenches @ Gear Brisbane and is one helluva FAST rider. I first met Gypsy at the Fixed Fest 2011 in Jakarta, Indonesia and we recently kicked it @ Interbike 2011.
Anyhow, head over to Reciprocity Failure is see all the amazing photos Matt Lingo snapped of Gypsy… they are all so good and I couldn’t post them all =)
I’m looking forward to seeing you soon in PDX and niice look rear clincher!
Rob @ Hold Fast just dropped this photo in my email box of the new V2 collaboration strap which should be shipping by the middle of next week. These black straps feature tiled PC logos in a light gray color. The design came out smooth!
"We recently got in all our sample Contact hubs to most of the team guys and the testing has been going great. The idea behind the Contact was to have smaller drivers (9t & 10t) similar to a BMX driver. The driver slides in and locks in. It doesn’t allow any sort of bolts or anything else to keep it fixed. The aesthetics of the hub looks awesome too, really clean and simple looking. We’ll keep you guys posted as soon as we get to production." //Resist//
"During the time we were developing our Pursuit MK2, we were also working on a variant of the frameset, now dubbed the Pursuit MK3. While the two frames are fairly similar, the primary differences are in the rear brake bridge and seat stay curvatures.
We've modeled the geometry after a dual 700c setup and removed the neck-breaking angles that traditional pursuit frames sport. The fork was designed to match this frameset, featuring intricate CNC details and embossed fork caps, to flow with the rest of the frame design."
I recently rounded up some parts with the help of Leader to build my friend Jessica a new single-speed bike. Without Jessica, I could have not taken so many recent trips out of Portland. She watches my house and takes care of my little boy Beans. She will be hitting the streets of PDX on a 722TS as soon as she gets a brake caliper… haha.
"Introducing the London Transport Citizen & Yalta, inspired by the land of tweed, punk and pilsner. The Chrome City Series is our take on the unique materials, graphic treatments and methods that define the culture and lifestyle of a selected city. The LT Citizen and Yalta are made with bomb-proof coated technical tweed that references the look of the 19th century with the performance of today. The inside liner features a custom Victorian-inspired print by Brooklyn-based Flavor Paper and the leather front panel on the Citizen is embossed with our iconic logo."
KILAS x PEONFX have joined forces to produce a limited edition tee that includes a nifty box containing stickers and a skid chart. This tee will be available October 8th @ PEONFX.
Livery Design Gruppe has a nice spread of new hard goods on their site. I saw most of these items displayed at their Interbike booth and everything was super clean. Get all the details @ LDG!
"This film is about the people of S.F.G. (Seoul Fixed Gear) and Seoul city. This story shows the people who are trying to blaze a trail for fixed gear in Seoul, a city in which bicycle culture has not yet been defined. The people in the film range from graffiti artists, to film directors, to T-shirt designers, to B-boys, swimmers and bicycle mechanics.
It shows their individual passion for riding fixed.
Why do we ride in a city which cannot fully protect us by law? In a city in which cars rule the road so unrelentingly?...
"LDG is glad to announce that Jason Clary will be a part of Team LDG. Jason brings much to the table with his aggressive riding style and past racing accolades, proving him as a force to be reckoned with."
"Filming on FOR THE COUNTRY took place in April, 2011. Only a month earlier, on March 11, 2011, Japan was struck by a massive earthquake and tsunami that left nearly 20,000 people reported dead or missing. More than 800,000 homes were damaged or destroyed. Thousands of survivors are displaced and still living in temporary shelter.
Please take a moment to consider contributing to ongoing relief efforts. Mercy Corps, a Portland-based organization, works directly with Peace Winds Japan to provide on the ground assistance in affected areas."
Mercy Corps is a fantastic organization and my work has donations through them. Get on that!
"Following the overwhelming response to our new S-Line Frameset at Interbike, we decided to take some complete shots of the new frameset in a complete build just in case you weren't able to attend the show."
I got a chance to see this bike upclose and its wild! Want the scoop on this complete build… head over to Livery Design Gruppe and receive the knowledge.
"Built for use with the Fyxation Gates Platform Pedal, the Gates Pedal Strap is made out of durable 2″ nylon seat belt webbing and is built to take abuse. We designed the Gates pedal straps with an extra long top strap so they fit most shoes/boots and stiffened the lower strap so they keep their shape while on your pedals. Designed as much for freestyle riding as they are for the morning commute, the Fyxation Gates pedal strap is ideal for anyone looking for a durable, secure and adjustable alternative to toe clips."
During our last day in Las Vegas, Jason and I rode out in the morning with Matt Montoya to check out some nearby locations. I fired this first snap of Matt at a drainage ditch banked with a wall. The second location was at the top floor parking structure of the Hooters Hotel & Casino. I snapped this photo of Matt blasting over the rail with ease.
It was definitely an honor to meet Matt Montoya in person. He’s so skilled… it’s mind-blowing!
Hands down… Chrome had the best looking booth @ Interbike. If you were looking for someone, chances are they were at the Chrome booth. I met up with Corinne who is the PR Coordinator for Chrome and she gave me a rundown on some their new products.
The first item she showed me was the Lieutenant… a 26L waterproof roll-top messenger bag which is part of the Militia series. It was impressive! Next in line was the Cardiel Attack Series collaboration that consisted of 3 inner-working bags (Fortnight, ORP, Shank). The ORP (Operation Readiness Pack) was probably the lightest daypack I have ever picked up. This collaboration is amazing and I highly recommend swooping up all three of them.
Speaking of collaborations, how about that sweet Chrome x Cog mid-ankle shoe! And for you ladies, check out these new Dolores kicks. This American classic shoe features waterproof Cordura and can be worn with or without laces.
Now, this is where I have a brain fart. I can’t remember the name of this bag, but all I know it was part of a night series? Anyhow, it’s shown on the second to last photo. This black beauty was the best Chrome messenger bag I’ve seen yet! Black buckle, reflective accents... a true beauty! (Update… it’s called the Night Series Citizen)
I must have passed the Cadence/DVS booth over a 100 times @ Interbike. Just wait to you see the new swag coming out from these two staples in the industry.
It’s been a long ass time since we heard anything new from Charge as far as FGFS. I don’t even know anyone who still rolls on a Charge Scissor other than their team… maybe? All in all… a solid frame and fork. It would be nice to see this bike back in the spotlight. With that said, you can pre-order one of these bad boys @ Wiggle (UK).
Resist has an assortment of new goods coming out… including the first cassette fixed gear hub, 26er Nomad tires, and much more. Check out more sneak peeks @ Resist.
The last day @ Interbike was the BEST! This is when everyone says their goodbyes and new friendships are formed. The Kagero was a HUGE hit @ the Leader Bike booth and I appreciate all the positive feedback.
I like to give thanks to Sal for making this all possible and Jason Finn for taking loads of photos. And to all my friends @ Interbike… see you next year!
Day 4 of Interbike was hectic as swarming crowds of people crowded up the aisles just to annoy me. Around noon time, I met up with Corinne @ Chrome and she walked me through all the new upcoming Chrome goodies that will surely put a huge smile on your face. I will be making a special entry for Chrome this weekend.
I have to tell you, I’m very impressed with the new VX series from Mission Workshop. You have to see it and feel it in person to grasp the true craftsmanship that went into these remarkable courier systems. Now, as you can see in the photo... DZR has a nice all black SPD compatible shoe coming out that looks really damn good! Lastly, Billy’s signature Bern helmet displays a detailed graphic that speaks for the man himself.
Our next stop was @ YNOT and their new line of bags are by far the best I’ve seen yet. A lot of thought went into these bags and the end result is one helluva innovative lineup.
"Affinity Cycles is proud to announce the formation of the Kissena Velo Fund. This endeavor will be the driving force behind Affinity Cycles community efforts for 2012. We are happy to spearhead this effort, but it will only become possible with the support of many dedicated individuals, businesses and charitable contributions. We are seeking first and foremost to spread the word throughout the greater cycling community and secondly to gain funding/financial support for the project itself."
Please download the attached PDF files (PDF1, PDF2) on more information on how you can help this important endeavor.
PEDAL Consumption will be working on some projects in the near future to assist the Kissena Velo Fund… so keep your eyes peeled!
Day 3 started by visiting some familiar faces such as Livery Design Gruppe, Fyxation, and many more. We stopped by to check out the new Phil Wood track crank and hot damn…
Later in the evening, we went to check out the gold sprints and the mighty Congo killed the competition.
Sofus Francisco x Toro Quality Goods Toro Quality Goods has partnered with Danish cycling outfit, Sofus Francisco, to refine a run of the new 'Tigh10' pro leather straps. The nylon strapping used is the strongest and most rigid material fit to handle the riding needs of both daily commuters and serious freestyle riders. Accommodates small and large shoe styles without compromising riding comfort or visual aesthetics.
T-005 No one likes a pocket full of keys grinding into their leg every time they hop on their bike, so we made the t-005. A rugged leather lanyard that offers a simple solution to this common problem. Constructed in the USA of heavy grade leather and durable steel hardware, it is made to withstand the rigors of life on the road.
Day 2 of Las Vegas was just another long day @ the Sands Convention Center. Kareem & crew landed in Vegas and we got a sneak peek of CRSH… something really sweet in the works!
Later in the day, Jacopo from Dodici flew in from Italy… along with some new 2012 Dodici models. If your in town for Interbike 2011, stop by the Leader booth and check out the spread.
Just when you thought you were getting comfortable with the Histrogram model… introducing the third look for the Cinelli x MASH Bolt series.
"Enclosed is our third color scheme for the Cinelli MASH Bolt series. This frameset marks the return of the original Bolt geometry — preferred by some of our long distance riders and racers for its more comfortable approach. Built with the same solid Columbus Airplane construction and finished with a tonal silver top coat. The graphic palette draws its inspiration from historical Cinelli colors brought forward onto a modern street racer."
"Elegantly bombproof and quietly powerful, a simple, do-anything pant. Tough enough to handle the great outdoors, good looking enough to get you through any doorway, and comfortable enough that you know that you belong where ever you wind up. Cut medium lean with a straight leg and extended gusset for full freedom of movement. Made in NYC."
Jason and I arrived in Las Vegas yesterday and quickly met up with the Leader entourage. We spent the majority of the day at the Leader booth helping set up.
The weather here in Las Vegas has been unpredictable… sun, thunder showers, etc...
Phil Gresky from Wirral, UK sent me some photos of his new Tokyo Fixed S2 build. His build features 88mm carbon clinchers and several limited edition Nitto CMWC components.
A shipment of Kagero framesets recently arrived at Leader HQ. The man in black… Terrence Patrick did a nice job forming letter formations with the boxes.
"iMiNUSD will be throwing a trick comp to celebrate their 2nd year anniversary on Sept. 11th. In light of that, the iMD/WheelTalk crew has been hard at work building ramps at the new warehouse. Peep the edit featuring iMD riders: Anthony Combs, Jeff Dempler, Scott Horton, Devon Lawson, Alex Blanco, and Matt Montoya."
"The Storm King Parka is built around our Supermarine® Cotton, a 21st century edit to a nearly forgotten World War II fabric. You can think of it as the pinnacle of cotton technology, highly breathable, extremely water resistant and completely windproof. It can only be made using the longest staple Egyptian cotton fiber, woven together in a dense weave that swells up and seals when exposed to water.
For this iteration of the parka, we headed out to Vancouver and found a factory to properly tape up the seams for additional storm-proofing. We dialed in the cut, and sharpened up the details: Prim S snap closures, Italian seam tape, three double access envelope pockets with snap garages, a two way Riri Aquazip in the front, full sleeve zips, half pit zips, interior megastash pocket, hi-visibility hood design and a four-piece modified Pivot Sleeve construction for maximum freedom of movement."

Matt Reyes snapped some photos go Boothby’s 26" SE Bikes prototype @ the Island in SF. I heard SE Bikes is also working on an accompanying fork for this frame, but until then… riders are rocking the Landing Gear fork.
The Leader crew took a trip down to Tecate last week. They invited Jason and I to go, but we were too scared… cartels, beheadings (just kidding)… you know whats good! The crew stopped @ Kilolibra and got their swag on. Iron Man who is a famed metal worker presented a custom trophy to Michael Chacon b/c he shreds!
Anyhow, Marcus snapped some photos documenting their trip South of the border.
"Here is a quick teaser of our first prototype. This one is called the Superb Sprint and is an aluminum frame with lugged steel fork. It is amazingly light weight, matching the Cinelli Mash, and that has a carbon fork! More info and photos coming soon, keep your eyes pealed!"
Hold Fast has revamped their site and shopping with them just got easier. Also, check out the Red Stitch strap of the month and Michael Chacon’s signature straps… as well as the other HF riders.
